In 1933 Cartier expanded the Tank line by introducing the Basculante version.
The design is maintained by mounting the classic rectangular case, with the difference that the watch is designed in such a way that the watch can be turned in such a way as to completely cover the dial of the watch.
The overhead door is designed to move on an axis making them perform a complete rotation of 360 degrees, incorporating another useful application.
The clock can be positioned vertically by placing it in the appropriate loggia of the case, giving the owner the possibility of using it as a table clock or as a travel clock.
The proportions of the watch are extremely harmonious and allow the winding crown to be positioned at the top of the watch, directly under the cabochon, to use the Cartier denomination. To use the winding crown the watch is rotated out of its “frame”.
The Basculante Tank model does not have a second hand, but only a minute and hour hand, made of blue steel.
In particular, this rare Cartier Tank Basculante model is made of 18K yellow gold and was produced in only 365 pieces.
