Rolex chronographs have always been in demand. From around 1937 Rolex added some to the sales catalog and it was an immediate success. Since the beginning of production of the iconic reference 3525 Oyster Monobloc, Rolex has combined water resistance with a quality chronograph movement. After World War II Rolex continued to improve their chronographs and launched the Dato Compax, a full calendar chronograph in an Oyster case nicknamed after Jean Claude Killy aka “Killy”.

The legendary Jean Claude Killy and his ambassadorial role on the Rolex board of directors has existed for over 40 years. With his nickname to honor an important Rolex reference alongside the Paul Newman Daytona, Jean Claude Killy became Mr. Dato Compax aka The Calendar Chronograph, which eventually became the most important chronograph in the Rolex watch family with refs 4768, 4767, 5036 , 6036, 6236.
